I get a lot of questions about a variety of topics. Here are some of them along with the scintillating answers. LOL
On Writing
Q. How did you get a book deal?
A. This video sums it up better than writing it out…
Q. I’d like to write a book. Where should I start?
A. Some folks may get peeved at this answer, but its the truth: There’s no right way and no wrong way to write a book. Different authors have their own way of doing things. Do what makes your creativity flow the best. Perhaps you could start by taking out a pen and paper or your laptop and just doing it. Don’t think about it or talk about it, be about it! The first book will more than likely be the harderst, but most enjoyable thing you ever write. But it’s the one book you write where you don’t have editors and agents telling you what your audience wants to hear and its the one that will be the most authentic. Let the ideas pour out of you. You’ll have time to edit and rearrange things later. Just start writing! I do offer coaching and editing services. Visit my site www.studio312online.com for more details on how I can personally help you achieve your writing goals. No, it isn’t free. Mama’s gotta eat too. But I will be sharing more free info with you guys in the days to come.
Q. Who are your favorite authors?
A. I LOVE J. California Cooper. I got the chance to have dinner with her once, and it was an unforgettable experience I’ll always treasure. She’s so in tune with human frailties. I LOVE HER! I also adore Walter Mosely for similar reasons. Chuck Pahlinuk (he wrote Fight Club) is so dope! I love his off-kilter subjects and characters. I also LOVE LOVE LOVE Paolo Coehlo. He takes my mind to all the places it needs to go.
Q. What’s your favorite book?
Q. What’s your favorite book that you’ve written?
A. The Rolexxx Club is the most dear to my heart. It’s my baby. Like my firstborn. I also like Heaven’s Fury. That was fun to write because I was dealing with a cheater, and I enjoyed every single second of torturing and murdering the character I developed while being mad at him! LOL.
Q. What’s your least favorite book that you’ve written?
Q. Which character is most like you?
A. I would say that all my characters embody different elements of myself, only magnified. Whilst I am a bit eccentric and wild, I can’t match the chicks I write about. I definitely have Desiree’s hopeful optimism and creative, never-say-die spirit and I have Ginger’s street smarts and raw, ruthless ambition that is now balanced by my faith in God. The main women of the Rolexxx Club are like my yin and yang. From Queen of Miami, I’d say I’m absolutely like Ms. Bobbi: fiercly independent, I’m from Chicago and have her DJing abilities and meaneater ways. The protagonist Lucky, from my story Divas Need Love Too from the anthology “These Are My Confessions” share a lack of luck in love. What she was going through was definitely a page out of the book of my life at the time I that wrote it. But the character that is most like me right now has got to be Ebony Knight. While I am not a former con artist or full-time dominatrix, I definitely have her dominant take no shorts ways. I’m totally enraptured by fetishes, kink, and what motivates human sexuality. The weirder it is, the more it fascinates me. And if someone hurt my mother, only death could keep me from avenging her. Plus, stark, raving, crazy people always gravitate towards me.
