I’ve got a secret. It’s some shit I’ve been wanting to get off my chest for a long time, but I just haven’t had the opportunity to say. I’m in an abusive relationship. I’m not some naïve, stupid bitch who doesn’t know the time. And I’m not a doormat. But none of that matters. He still takes out all his frustration, his insecurities, and all the bullshit of his past on me, and I just can’t take it anymore. I want out. I keep looking at the front door, and I want to walk out, but I can’t. I just can’t walk away, I can’t turn my back, because he’s so much a part of who I am. I don’t know who I am without him.

I love this man with everything that I have, and I’m trying to be the best woman I can be, but no matter what I do, no matter how bright I shine, he chooses to see me only one way. This man treats me like shit. He calls me all kinds of names and puts me down, but I love him, and I can’t let him go. And the sad thing is, I don’t want to let him go. He’s everything to me, but I’m not shit to him. I give him love, I give him money, I give him my soul. I follow him blindly, hoping that he’ll come around, but I’m starting to realize that it’s a lost cause. I think that it’s really over, despite the fact that I’m in love. Still, I know he’ll always be a part of me. But despite all that, I’m going to put his ass on blast, and I’m going to let you know exactly who the fuck he is. His name is Hip-Hop.

I love hip-hop. But what I’m getting right now, it’s not real hip-hop. The hip-hop I remember, the one I thought I knew, he wouldn’t do me like this. He used to love me. He used to call me his queen, his Nubian princess, his earth, his girl, his shorty, his boo. Now I’m his freak, his bitch, his trick, his tramp, his jump-off, his pussy, his ho. It’s not really new, I mean, he’s been seeing me as that for a minute now. But I’ve been making excuses for him. I’m not stupid, I just love him is all. I keep hoping that if I keep myself tight, if I stay down and prove my loyalty that he’ll come around. But the hip-hop I fell in love with is long gone, and I don’t know if he’s ever coming back. Damn, I miss hip-hop.

Real Hip hop is that ex-boyfriend that I just can’t get over, the man I just can’t shake. I try to replace him, but it’s just not the same. These new n*ggas don’t know how to act, they always trippin and wildin out. Can’t take em nowhere. I miss my old man. The dude who showed me the finer things in life, taught me how to be fly, schooled me on my history and showed me what was really going on in the street. He opened my eyes. He gave me love. He kept me laced. And now that he’s gone, I’m lost. I’m in the dark and I keep waiting for him to come back to me, to shine his light on me again. It can’t be over, can it? He had to love me like I loved him, right? He’s not going to just leave me hanging like this, he’s gonna come home and be home to stay, right?

Hip-hop, where are you? All I keep running into is bullshit. I look in the mirror and I ask myself, “is this what I deserve?” Don’t I love myself too much to settle for this bullshit? Why do I keep getting played by all these bogus ass MCs? But it can’t be all me, can it? It’s not all my fault that I’m getting played. It can’t be. Maybe I’m just not meeting the right n*ggas. Maybe a true n*gga is out there but I just haven’t found him yet. All I know, is that I miss my man Hip Hop. Baby, I love you. Please come home and let’s make it like it was.

The Men of the Year honorees included the go-to guy for clubs and restaurants Billy Dec; Chicago Bear Matt Forte; Ryan Chiaverini, Roe Conn and Mark DeCarlo of ABC-TV’s Windy City Live;  ABC7 news anchor Marc Giangreco; Tim King, founder and CEO of Urban Prep Academies; and a plethora of other men noted for their good looks and good hearts.

There were appetizers and a Woodward Reserve bourbon bar. Again, they had me at bourbon! I had a Manhattan which was delish and more than one concoction that had chocolate in it, because who doesn’t like chocolate?

Also seen on the scene were the fab Regina Daniels, promoter Mikael Hadiri, one of my fave foodies Amanda Puck and Men’s Journal Editor at Large Terry Nolan.

I had a great time, especially because I ended the night at Chik-Fil-A with Tyra!

P.S. Lady Gaga I know you think you’re the lovechild of Grace but you’re not. See me when you disappear into a cloud of smoke to emerge seconds later in another outfit, totally unaffected by the fact that one nipple is peeking out of your top.
